Concrete Polishing & Concrete Staining: An Excellent Allergen-Free Alternative to Carpet
Recently we had a client call looking to replace the carpet in their living room. They were looking for a high-end flooring style to compliment their more modern furnishing. In addition, the client was highly allergic to pet dander, and their family dog was causing congestion due to the carpet storing dander deep within its fibers.
Step 1: Carpet Removal: You Never Know
Since the client had never seen their living room without carpet, we had no idea what to expect when we pulled up the carpet. Many times concrete floor staining is done during new construction allowing the flooring specialist to have a clear view of what to anticipate during the staining process. Once the carpeting was removed, we noticed that there were imperfections in the concrete surface that needed to be filled and ground down smooth.
Step 2: Smooth Surface Yield the Best Results
Preparing concrete to be stained and polished, the surface must be as smooth and level. The smoother and level the surface the more consistent the end result will be providing an even color stain providing optimal results.
Step 3: Staining & Polishing
The client wanted a really rich, deep look to their stained concrete, so we stained the floor in two steps. First, we added a medium brown stain to provide depth to the variations of color that are created with polished concrete. Second, we used a deep, walnut brown to provide the rich elegant look the client was looking for.
Step 4: Finishing Touches to the Stained & Polished Concrete Flooring
Once the stain is applied, we add a seal and polish to complete the beautiful stained concrete floor. Curing time is minimal and will continue to cure over the next few weeks hardening to a durable, shiny new surface.
Step 5: Final Touches
Since we removed the carpet, there were traces of the carpet stripping left around the edges of the room. We took a deep walnut stained trim to cover these areas. The client also left the entry way tile in place where we added trim as a transition piece as well as transitioning into the tiled dining room.
