Do you see little cracks in the grout on your floor? If yes, then those are the result of continuous wear and tear, weather effects, and dirt, dust, and water accumulation. All these factors can result in even bigger damage like chipped grout. Cracked and chipped grout also spoils the look of your floor and weakens the tiles.
Thus, regrouting is very important. But can you do it on the existing grout? Let’s find out!
Is it Possible to Regrout on Existing Grout?
Surprisingly, regrouting over the existing grout is possible. Also, this is a great way to save money and you can do it on your own. However, it is only recommended if you are skilled enough to carry out the entire process precisely.
If you are planning to regrout over the existing grout, it is recommended to use epoxy-based grouting material. Epoxy grout is strong and settles perfectly on the old grout.
Now that you have decided to regrout the floor on your own, we have some steps for the process that you can follow for ease.
- Chip off a bit of existing grout
Use a sharp blade or a grout-removing tool to remove the old grout. This does not mean the entire grout. Just chip off the old grout for about 2 mm in depth.
- Work in small areas
Cover smaller sections at a time. Work in small areas and remove the grout to make the surface even.
- Clean the surface
Use a handheld vacuum cleaner to clean the surface thoroughly. This will ensure that there are no grout and dirt particles left behind.
- Apply the new grout
Once the surface is cleaned, you can pour in the new epoxy grout in the grout lines. Make sure that you have evenly spread the grout.
- Clean off the excess
Use a wet sponge to clean off the excess grout.
You can follow this process for easy regrouting. However, you always have the option to get it done by professionals. You can call our experts from Bizalion Floors in Texas.
