Travertine is one of the most preferred natural stones for flooring interiors and exteriors. It is a beautiful stone with neutral shades and enhances the appearance of the space it is laid in. Sadly, not all people can take good care of their travertine floors and end up with dull and damaged flooring.
A similar case was handed to us a few months back. One of our clients at Bizalion Floors called out to us for help. They wanted to do something with their travertine floor that would bring back the newness of their stoned floor. This is how we worked with them and made their floor look as good as new.
Know More About Travertine
Before diving into the restoration processes we used, let us first know more about travertine. Here are some properties of the stone:
- It is a natural stone obtained from hot springs
- Travertine is formed after years of precipitation of calcium carbonate
- It has a unique and neutral color palette that goes perfectly with every interior
- The stone is versatile and can be used in multiple places apart from interior and exterior flooring
- It has a porous surface
- It is also a sensitive stone and can be shaped easily
- Travertine also requires more attention than usual ceramic tiles
Travertine Restoration
To meet our client’s expectations, we used a combination of processes to restore their travertine floor. The restoration began with vacating the floor for work.
After that, we thoroughly cleaned the floor. Once the floor was cleaned and dried, we began with a penetrating sealer. This sealer was applied in two coats and the pores were blocked to a great extent.
Further, we again applied two more coats of a high-quality penetrating sealer. This ensured that the pores were sealed completely. Once the surface was sealed we polished it to perfection. Polishing enhanced the look and the clients were happy to have a new travertine floor.
