Travertine is a refined stone that is used in worktops, backsplashes, and flooring once it has been quarried. While travertine is attractive and durable, it requires special attention when it comes to cleaning and upkeep. Travertine is a long-lasting material that can endure a lifetime or more, but it is not as hard as granite.
What is the importance of travertine sealing?
The best flooring to avoid stains and etch marks are those that have been sealed. Stains and etch marks are lessened and prevented by sealing the travertine. Travertine that has been sealed is easy to clean and keeps its polished or honed appearance for longer. Our sealer uses nanotechnology to help clog and compress the stone’s pores, preventing and limiting discoloration and moisture absorption.
Travertine sealing provides a number of advantages, including making cleaning easier, limiting moisture and stain absorption, and acting as a barrier for regular use, providing piece of mind. Let’s go over some dos and don’ts of travertine cleaning.
DOs
- For minor travertine cleaning messes, use a sponge or soft cloth and hot water. You can use a safe and specific stone-cleaning product for larger ones. Then use a cotton cloth or chamois to buff dry.
- Avoid “glass rings” and travertine surface damage by using coasters for all glasses, cups, bottles, and cans. Keep harsh chemicals away from the stone surface by storing bathroom toiletry supplies in a tray.
- Dust mop your travertine floor tiles with a clean, dry, non-treated dust mop on a regular basis. Also, mop the stone floor using a professional stone floor cleaner. Use caution and, if possible, avoid using a vacuum cleaner, since it may harm the stone surface.
DONTs
- Don’t shape, or form, utilize store-bought cleaning products. These can contain acids, alkalis, and other chemicals that can harm the countertop or tile surface, or cause the sealant to break down, exposing the stone to stains.
- Cleaning travertine with vinegar, ammonia, lemon, or orange is also not recommended. Because they include abrasives that damage and dull the surface, generic bathroom, tub, tile, and grout cleaners are also out. Only use travertine cleaning chemicals that are specifically designed for it.
- Sitting or standing on your travertine countertops might cause them to crack due to the weight. Finally, avoid placing hygiene products directly on your counter tops. They may discolour, damage, or scratch the finish, causing a dull patch or scratch.
